Mamma Mia Tops all-time UK's biggest selling DvD - Indian Paparazzi E News

The release, which was issued five weeks ago, racked up enough sales during the Christmas break to become the first disc to sell more than five million DVDs.

It has overtaken Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl, which has sold 4.7 million copies in the UK.

It rounded off a phenomenal year for Mamma Mia! The Movie, which has already been named as the fastest-selling DVD, shifting 1.669 million on its first day of sale and in mid-December it was announced that the movie had overtaken Titanic to become the highest grossing film in the UK, with a turnover of more than £69 million.

The movie soundtrack has been confirmed as the the biggest selling compilation of 2008, with a million copies flying off the shelves.

The Official Charts Company's all-time list covers all sales from the launch of the DVD format in Spring 1998 through to the end of 2008.

The two movies are the only two DVDs to have sold more than four million copies in their lifetime in the UK, with The Lord Of the Rings: Fellowship Of The Ring in third place on the all-time list, selling 3.9 million.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "Right from its release, Mamma Mia! has been a record breaker - when it was issued on DVD, it became the fastest seller of all time.

"This latest landmark further underlines the popularity of the movie, which is now 'officially' the British public's favourite DVD of all time - with one-in-four British households owning a copy."

The biggest selling titles in the 10 years of DVD are otherwise dominated by action-adventure titles such as Pirates Of The Caribbean, the Lord Of The Rings, Casino Royale and Gladiator.

The latest we hear is from the Chennai coast from the camp of the film 'Enthiram' starring superstar Rajinikanth and the gorgeous green eyed beauty Aishwarya Rai. Apparently, the budget for the film has been astronomical under the direction of showman Shankar but then Rajini is said to be taking an initiative to bring down the costs.

Sources say that Rajini had a word with Aish on the budget and recommended that they must cut down on their remuneration to make things better. When Rajini says, everyone listens and something like that happened with the pretty lady also. To Harihar Nagar will be comedy-oriented, depicting the story of four intimate friends Mahadevan (Mukesh), Govindan Kutty (Siddique), Appukuttan (Jagadeesh), and Thomas Kutty (Asokan) who all live in different places after their marriages. Four days ago, there was news that Britney Spears had landed in Jodhpur to rehearse for the second video of her single, Womanizer, which dancer Sandip Soparrkar had been signed on to choreograph.

That news came amid buzz that Britney had actually come to see Sandip, with whom she was speculated to be having an affair.

The media, including DT, had carried those stories, and Sandip’s official denials, as also earlier news about Sandip’s performance at Madonna’s 50th birthday bash in England, and his attending a counselling session for her before her marriage to Guy Ritchie broke up. However, what DT didn’t publish were the most recent reports, that got us curious, sent ostensibly by Britney’s manager, Larry Rudolph, saying that Britney got her room in her Jodhpur hotel, Umaid Bhawan, shifted to one that had an interconnecting door to Sandip’s, and that after a workout, they both “locked themselves up” for an hour. The insinuation in this and other reports was clearly that Britney and Sandip were having an affair. A photo, supposedly of Sandip and Britney at Jodhpur, sent to us, again by ‘Larry’, is the one you see above – a clearly morphed picture with Sandip’s face tacked on to a picture of someone standing with Britney. The original, which is actually an old picture of Britney and Neil Patrick Harrison, is next to it.

All of this has been circulated by ‘Larry’ from Sandip’s email ID, and the same picture was mailed to our sister publication in Jaipur, this time by Sandip’s manager, and not by ‘Larry’ – but again from Sandip’s email ID. DT spoke to Sandip, his partner Jessy Randhawa, the hotel that Britney was supposed to be staying at in Jodhpur (she’s supposed to have left in the morning on December 29), and the CISF, that normally would provide some security cover to Britney if an international celebrity of her standing were landing at an Indian airport, and found more than a few glaring inconsistencies. New Delhi : Pop diva Britney Spears has reportedly arrived in India to rehearse for the second video of her hit single ‘Womanizer’, to be choreographed by Indian ‘Salsa King’ Sandip Soparrkar.

According to our source, the singer plans to go around Mumbai, visiting the scene of recent terror attacks in the city. Grapevine has it that after having received a lot of bad publicity, Britney is desperately seeking some image building by showing her concern for the terrified Mumbaikars.

However, it is being said that the singer has parted ways with her long-term choreographers - Wade Robson and Andre Fuentes; she has come to India to meet the ace choreographer Sandip Soparrkar. The singer decided against continuing her relationship with Wade Robson and Andre Fuentes, who she has worked with since 1999 and 1998 respectively.

The 27-year-old singer will meet Sandip during a trip to Jodhpur, and is said to be keen to get a fresh perspective on the moves for her upcoming world tour.

And as far as her supposed visits to the terror hit areas in Mumbai is concerned, let’s hope that she sensibly reaches out to many and puts across a valuable message to the people.
