Dutch Royal Parade Attack Suspect Dies - News In Pictures

The AP reports that five people died during a parade for Dutch Queen Beatrix when a car is reported to have crashed into the progression.

No members of the royal family were hurt, but Dutch officials tell the BBC that they believe the crash was an intentional attack. From BBC:

Cynthia Boll, a photographer at the scene, told the BBC the car was already badly damaged before it slammed into the crowds at high speed.

The crowds were celebrating Queen's Day - a national holiday in the Netherlands when thousands of people take to the streets to celebrate the queen's official birthday.

The New York Times echoes the statements of Dutch officials that the attack seems to have been an intentional, targeted strike at the royal family. Police arrested the man driving the car as soon as it crashed. He is reported to have been unarmed and acting alone, according to the Times:

Dutch officials said the man had "acted deliberately" but they ruled out links with a terrorist group. "The driver is suspected of trying to attack the royal family," a spokesperson for the Dutch police said, not giving additional details as to a possible motive.

White House Official Apologizes for Air Force One Photo Op in New York City - News In Pictures

The White House has apologised after a low-level flight by a presidential jet and a fighter plane sparked panic among New York City office workers.

The half-hour flight triggered the evacuation of a number of office buildings in the city.

Pentagon officials said the fly past - a photographic exercise not involving President Obama - had been co-ordinated with city and state authorities.

No general public notification was issued in advance.

"While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption," Louis Caldera, director of the White House military office, said in a statement.

"I apologise and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."

Correspondents say many New York residents are still scarred by the September 2001 attacks when airliners ploughed into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he was "furious" about the incident, criticising those responsible for failing to warn the public.

"The good news is it was nothing more than an inconsiderate, badly conceived and insensitive photo op with the taxpayers' money," said Mr Bloomberg.

The Boeing 747 jet is one of two planes known as Air Force One when the US president is aboard.

Bollywood's Style Icon Feroz Khan is Dead

The actor had been diagnosed with cancer over a year ago.

Firoz Khan was born in Bangalore, India. His father was Sadiq Ali Khan Tanoli,who was a Pathan originally from Ghazni province of Afghanistan and his mother (Fatima) came from Iran.

He has three brothers Sanjay Khan, Sameer Khan and Akbar Khan. After his schooling from Bangalore, he arrived in Mumbai where he made his debut as s

econd lead in Didi .He married Sundari, a designer and part of the Page Three circuit in Mumbai. They had two children together, Laila and Fardeen Khan In 1985, after 20 years of marriage, he divorced his wife. For the next five years he was forced to play the second to last lead in most of the movies. Through the early 1960-70s he made low-budget thrillers opposite starlets.

He also appeared in an English-language film titled Tarzan Goes to India in 1962 opposite Simi Garewal. His first big hit was in 1965 with the release of Oonche Log. It was his first major hit, but failed to attain the success he had hoped. Again, in the same year, he played a sacrificing lover in the mushy musical Arzoo. With this, Khan earned his entry into A-list second leads.

With the film Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Khan won his first Filmfare award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 1971-75 he appeared alongside his real-life brother Sanjay Khan in the hit film Mela.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading Bollywood star. He directed and starred in many of his films. The movie Qurbani (1980) was the biggest hit of his career and also launched the singing career of Nazia Hassan.
