Tata Motors Delivers First Nano, World's Cheapest Car - News In Pictures
Chairman of TATA Sons, Ratan Tata gave away the keys of the second, sunshine yellow Nano to Ashish Balakrishnan in Mumbai

On the verge of retirement, government servant Ashok Vichare is the first customer to get his hands on the people's car Nano. It is a reminiscent of the euphoria surrounding the delivery of the first Maruti 800 almost 26 years ago.
The scenario repeated when the crowds watched eagerly as Ratan Tata handed the keys to the first three customers at a Mumbai Tata Motors showroom.
Vichare, a custom officer said, "I am the first owner of the Nano in the world. It is like a dream come true. I would take it to Siddhivinayak temple and go for a drive on a Bandra Worli sea-link with my family."
So, the deliveries have finally begun. The car was first conceived as Ratan Tata's dream in 2003, which was first revealed in January 2008 and was meant for release last year.

Star Sensors in Chandrayaan Fail,Mission May End Prematurely
Bangalore, July 17 (PTI) : India's ambitious Chandrayaan-I Moon mission might come to a premature end as star sensors on board the spacecraft have failed.
"Star sensors are malfunctioning," S Satish, spokesperson of the Bangalore-headquartered Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) told PTI.
Star sensors played the crucial role of orientation towards the Moon.
ISRO said it has devised innovative technology and is using antenna pointing mechanism and gyroscopes to overcome the problem.
But the space agency is not confident on how long they can hold to this mode.
"We are not sure how long we will be able to sustain it
The life of Chandrayaan-I designed for two years may be reduced," Satish said.
He, however, maintained that the mission is not crippled adding, "it is continuing satisfactorily.".
Chandrayaan-I was launched from the spaceport of Sriharikota in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh on October 22 last year.

Anil Ambani - Spielberg $825m Deal Done
MUMBAI: Making his Hollywood debut, Anil Ambani is set to invest around $825 million as a first tranche towards making six films a year for global audiences. In oneof the largest deals in global cinema in recent times, Ambani has teamed up with noted Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg for their Los Angeles-based production house, Dreamworks Studios In a late-evening global conference call from New York, Ambani and Spielberg said the movies produced by Dreamworks would be distributed by Walt Disney globally, while the exclusive rights for India, ‘‘including DTH, DVD and theatre rights'', would rest with Reliance Big Entertainment . Anil Ambani said $325 million would come from his personal contribution, ‘‘$150 million would be chipped in by Disney and the rest would be with banks and institutions.'' ‘‘Clearly, the outlay of $825 million is what we are aiming at in the next three years: $325 million will be in the form of equity,'' Ambani said. Reacting to suggestions that
an investment outlay of over $1.5 billion for Dreamworks was on the cards, Ambani said, ‘‘There is no scaling up or scaling down of investment. We will begin with $825 million and this is the largest in recent times.'' The first DreamWorks motion picture to be released under the Touchstone Pictures banner is scheduled to hit theatres by 2010. Ambani also announced that his associate Amitabh Jhunjhunwala and Spielberg's partner for decades Stacey Snider, who has been associated with projects like ‘Eric Brockovich', ‘The Mummy' and ‘American Pie', would also serve on the Dreamworks board. He added that even though Reliance Big Entertainment was a private enterprise, he was not averse to listing it on the capital markets at an appropriate time. Spielberg said he was looking forward to visiting India to meet up with filmmakers. ‘‘This venture with Reliance opens a new door to our future,'' he said. ‘‘Their visionary step has given us a new set of dreams to work toward.'' Ambani said: ‘‘We are delighted to partner with such talented individuals as Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider. Ever since we looked at their business plan, I have never doubted that we would succeed in providing them with financial muscle.”

Review : Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Entering his sixth year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter may not be able to see the finishing line, but he knows it's coming.
In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," the sixth film in the Potter series, he's like a marathon runner who senses that he's got this course beat: He's still pacing himself, but there's a definite spring in his step.
Potter's confidence seems to be a product of Daniel Radcliffe's authority in the role as much as anything. He's decided he's the hero of the piece, and he's happy with that; Radcliffe plays him with such implacable conviction and such lightness, it's becoming harder to worry about the character's plight.
He can be reckless and impatient, but by now he's essentially untouchable. His chums may be prey to hormonal surges -- buckets of screen time is devoted to Ron's love life and Hermione's lack of same -- but our Harry stays focused. While Ron moons over his girlfriend, every night Potter takes a textbook to bed with him.
This battered book of potions comes with scarily insightful scribbles by a former student, the titular half-blood prince, giving Potter a distinct edge over his classmates and that increasingly conflicted bleached blond, Draco Malfoy. More important, it also gets him in good with this installment's designated dodgy faculty member, Professor Horace Slughorn.
We know the drill by now: Slughorn has special knowledge that Harry must prize out of him, while the teacher's own leanings remain tantalizingly ambiguous. A special guest star in all but name, Jim Broadbent plays this mildewed academic with appropriately Dickensian panache and an undertow of sympathy (first spotted disguised as an armchair, the suspiciously solicitous Slughorn maintains at least one foot in the closet).
Adapted by Steve Kloves and directed (like Potter V, "The Order of the Phoenix") by the efficient, self-effacing David Yates, "Half-Blood Prince" is as brisk and nimble as J.K. Rowling's two-steps-forward, one-step-back narrative stratagems allow.
It risks annoying some fans by axing one significant character and a potential action show-stopper, but it's actually the overarching storyline that feels skimpy; the movie is replete with lovely, inventive design details and idiosyncratic effects work, while Yates' reluctance to pump up the bombast might be counted sweet relief after the latest bout of blockbusting overkill.
A trio of evenly spaced set-pieces do generate enough excitement to make this an iffy proposition for parents with younger kids; in particular Dumbledore and Harry's climactic cave expedition is an intense, nightmarish standout.
But for all this series' constitutional doom-and-gloom, what's truly charming about the Harry Potter movies is the rare privilege of seeing Radcliffe, Rupert Grint (Ron), Emma Watson (Hermione) and the others growing up before our eyes.
We've now had eight formative years -- the first film came out in 2001 -- telescoped into 15 hours or so of tumultuous screen time, and anyone who's stayed the course with them will feel a connection.
advertisement
Soon it will be time to let these kids go and find their own way in the Muggle world, but what rich, strange and wonderful home movies we'll have to look back on.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is rated PG and runs 153 minutes.

Indian armed forces contingent leads Bastille Day Parade in Paris - News In Pictures

Following is the statement to the media by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh after the French National Day Parade in Paris:
“I am delighted to be present today at the National Day Celebrations of France. The magnificent parade we have witnessed dramatises the strength and dynamism of this great nation. It was an honour for India to have a contingent representing all three services of our Armed Forces lead the parade. This reflects the friendship and strategic partnership between our two countries and the cordial ties between our Armed Forces.
July 14 is a date important not only for France. The French Revolution marked a defining moment in the world history when the aspirations of the common man began to acquire a central place in political and social life. The ideals of French revolution – liberty, equality and fraternity - helped to inspire our freedom struggle and guided the founding fathers of the Indian constitution. I am grateful to President Sarkozy for giving India a place of honour on this great occasion.
India–France relations and cooperation are growing in strength and vitality in all fields. We have a strategic partnership and have built vibrant political ties, with collaboration in energy, space research, defence, industry and commerce, science and technology, education, culture and tourism. It is my ardent wish that the partnership between our two democracies is further strengthened and deepened in the years to come. This will benefit the people of both our countries.”

Preity Zinta Seeing Yuvraj Singh...?
Being a celebrity is not as rosy as you look from the outset. You have to pay a huge prize for name and fame. Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is one of the victims. She has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since crack appeared on her long-time relationship
with Ness Wadia. Now, she has been linked with her captain Yuvraj Singh.
It looks like the hugs after every match did the trick. Yuvraj used to be the first person to receive warm hugs from Preity, every time Kings XI Punjab won a match in the last leg of the Indian Premiere League (IPL). Yuvraj deserved them first being the captain of the team but their chemistry off the field has caught the eyes of the rumourmongers. It may be recalled that Preity and Ness, who co-own the Kings XI, never appeared together in the last IPL.
Adding more fuel to the fire, Yuvraj has bought a rooftop apartment in Mumbai, which is just a hug away from Preity Zinta's home. They are said to have grown closer after Preity announced her split with her long-time boyfriend Ness Wadia. Yuvraj too has experienced his share of heartbreaks with his relationships not working out the way he wanted. He was earlier linked to Kim Sharma and Deepika Padukone.
Preity and Yuvraj look good together. As both of them are single now, nobody can stop them from mingling. Give them space!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince review
12A, 153mins Opens Wednesday, July 15
Running time: 153 minutes
Cast:
Daniel Radcliffe -
Harry Potter
Emma Watson -
Hermione Granger
Rupert Grint -
Ron Weasley
Jim Broadbent -
Horace Slughorn
Helena Bonham Carter -
Bellatrix Lestrange
Director: David Yates
Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) has survived another showdown with Lord Voldemort, but no one is safe now that the evil wizard’s return from the dead is a matter of public record. The students at Hogwarts school know that they can trust headmaster Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), who introduces Harry to retired professor Horace Slughorn (Jim Broadbent) as part of a plan to uncover secrets from Voldemort’s past. Meanwhile, Harry and his friends Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) are growing up and dealing with hormones racing faster than broomsticks at a Quidditch match.
THE STORY
With Death Eaters causing havoc in both the Muggle - human - and wizarding worlds, special magical protections are put around Hogwarts School to keep the students safe.
Dumbledore (Gambon) needs Harry (Radcliffe) to help find vital clues to defeat Voldemort... but Harry is equally concerned about dangers within Hogwarts as well as getting increasingly interested in the attractions of the opposite sex.
The buzz: Some people are just wild about Harry; others, not so much. By now you know who you are, so plan accordingly. This penultimate installment in the boy wizard saga arrives in theaters a little later than hoped for (it was originally due last fall) but possibly just in time to save a summer overstuffed with creatively disappointing sequels. Director David Yates is back after delivering the series’ tightest entry, “Order of the Phoenix,” while longtime screenwriter Steve Kloves returns after sitting out on “Phoenix.” Their unenviable task: satisfy fans with an appropriately cinematic adaptation of a talky flashback-heavy book that famously contains the dramatic death of a beloved character.
The verdict: Maturing even more rapidly than its stars, “Half-Blood Prince” takes the “Potter” series to places deeper and darker than ever before. Film number six is soaked in dread (you don’t need to have read the books to know things won’t end well—or with any sense of finality), but nicely balanced by the lightness of the teen romances. As chaotic and unpredictable as the world they live in has become, Harry, Ron and Hermione are still kids finding their way into adulthood, and it’s the human connections that make this magical tale so emotionally rewarding. Credit Yates (and exceptional new cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel) for ensuring the experience has the visuals to match—this is the series’ most eye-popping entry since Alfonso Cuarón’s “Prisoner of Azkaban.” The ensemble cast remains as reliable as ever, led by Gambon’s strongest work yet (though book purists may lament how much Harry/Dumbledore bonding has been excised) and newcomer Broadbent nailing every bit of Slughorn’s hilarious vanity and poignant regrets. Already past the point when most film franchises would be wheezing their way toward irrelevancy, “Harry Potter” keeps going strong with a sense of purpose and ambition that puts most of Hollywood to shame. Remember to enjoy it now. All good things do eventually come to an end.
[“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” will also open in IMAX theaters in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York beginning July 15 and nationwide July 29.]

Santosh Sivan Making " Ceylon " Based on Refugees
Leading cameraman cum filmmaker Santosh Sivan is going to make a film titled Ceylon based on the problems faced by the Sri Lankan refugees.
Santosh Sivan said, "I will start the film Ceylon by November after I complete my assignment as cameraman in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. The film is basically on the plight of refugees from Sri Lanka who have been displaced from their land due to the domestic war. But it is not a bio-pic about the slain LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran."
"But at the same time Prabhakaran and his LTTE organization was a part of the refugee problem along with the Sri Lankan government and its policies. My film is clearly focused on the refugees' problems and the human rights violations only," he added.

Michael Jackson was murdered for his 1 Billion Pound Fortune : Sister La Toya
London: In a new twist to the controversy surrounding pop star Michael Jackson's death, his sister La Toya has claimed that the King of Pop was murdered for his fortune as "he was worth more dead than alive". Her claim comes just two days after the chief of Los Angeles police admitted they were investigating Jackson's death as possible homicide. La Toya said she and the family are convinced her brother's apparent drugs overdose was "foul play" by a shadowy group out to get their hands on his £1 billion fortune, the News of t
he World reported. "Michael was murdered. And we don't think just one person was involved. Rather, it was a conspiracy of people. I feel it was all about money. Michael was worth well over a billion pounds in music publishing assets and somebody killed him for that. He was worth more dead than alive," the newspaper quoted La Toya as saying. The 53-year-old claimed that the pop icon, who died at the age of 50 on June 25, was fed a series of addictive drugs to keep him submissive and controlled. "Michael had many needle marks on his neck and on his arms, and more about those will emerge in the next few weeks. But nothing has changed my mind that this was murder and I won't give up until I find out what killed my brother," she said. / CNN- IBN

Obama Looking at a Brazilian girl in G8 Summit - Photos - Video
President Obama was looking at 16-year old girl’s butt?
President Barack Obama made headlines on Friday after a photo of him at the G8 summit apparently showed the president looking at a junior delegate from Brazil Mayora Tavares.
The photo was apparently misleading after a video aired by U.S. TV network ABC showed the president was just looking down at the steps as he and France's President Nicolas Sarkozy took their places for a photo with the junior delegates.
However, many media outlets scandalized the photo with headlines such as the DrudgeReport.com with the title "Second Stimulus Package," and TMZ.com with "Baby Got Barack."
